Campus Crime Statistics for Ohio State University
October 1, 2019 the crime statistics for Ohio State University were released for the crimes that took place in 2018. No specifics about the individual cases was included only the figures for the cases collectively. The number one crime committed at the Ohio State University is alcohol law violators with a total of 1,346 cases and only 52 of which did not take place in the residence facilities on campus. This number may seem large, but this is the lowest number of cases since 2016 at the campus. The second highest crime committed on the campus was fondling with 1,040 cases, with only 22 cases that took place in the residence facilities in reported in 2018. The number of fondling cases has drastically increased since 2016 having increased by 1,018 cases. The third highest crime committed on the campus was drug violations with a total of 344 cases with 286 cases taking place in the residence facilities.
On the chart, there were crimes listed that had no cases at all in 2018, such as manslaughter by negligence and murder and non-negligent manslaughter. Keep in mind the amount of students that attended Ohio State in 2018 at 61,170 students at the Columbus campus location. So relative to the amount of students that attending the school the numbers do not seem as drastic. There were 11 cases total weapons law violations in 2018, which has an increase in the last years the number was 0. There were also other crimes committed on the campus such as robbery with 4 cases , burglary with 95 cases , and arson with 6 cases. Along with the statistics were over 100 pages of information on the safety precautions being taken at the university to ensure the safety of the students and staff.
