I Heard It On the Couch
When it comes to gathering information as a college student there are many places to look. In this cosurse alone I utilize the internet, local newspapers, social media, and various other sources. When it comes to common everyday news as a student living here on campus I have found that the lobby area of my residence hall is a great listening post for me. Just last night while in the lobby we discussed how to do a proper pushup, pumkin carving, the issue with the lack of jobs on campus, minimum wage in Arkansas, and the responsibilities that residence assistance's have. I met new people that had never seen me before, because the heard our conversation they would jump in and add the information that they had to offer.
The was gentleman sitting at the table in the lobby carving a huge pumpkin for the carving competition being held by the cafe with a prize of $50 in DB. Somehow that statement, changed the converstation to the lack of money people have due to not being able to find a job on campus. Which led to a miniature lecture for a junior on the power of having connections. The random things that we discuss are all inspired by posts from social media, things they've heard around campus, from the school website, twitter, and many other places. When talking to the on duty RA for the night he discussed all that the RA's are expeted to do. Of course I had to inquire about the craziest thing that he had experienced as an RA, which was apparently a fight that happened in our lobby last week that I knew nothing about. Just as quickly as we meet and talk, by the next day there are is more to talk about.
